The  Loblolly pine was chosen to represent a “Southern pine” it is the most important pine used in southern pine plantations.  A popular shade tree, this southern pine is fast growing versatile tree adaptable to a wide range of soils from  heat & drought tolerant landscapes. It can grow to 100' height. There are four species of pine native to Arkansas.  Among them, the loblolly pine, also known as the Arkansas pine, often is cited as the state tree of Arkansas and also Alabama.
